French Country Dresser Transformation

Goodmorning!  Is everyone enjoying this cold weather?  I know I am.  My favorite thing about this time of year is building a fire in the fire place.  Last night I snuggled by the fire with my little one.  We enjoyed egg nog and watched ABC family Christmas movies while my oldest son and his dad went to basketball practice.

Well, thought I would share my latest project.  I purchased a beautiful cherry wood French Country style dresser with mirror and Queen sized bed from a neighbor.  It was in excellent condition structurally but had some "bad" places on it.

See, it is not bad, but I had a vision of what it could be!

It has beautiful carved pieces on the dresser, mirror and headboard.
I was inspired by Saving Grace's Pretty Gray Buffet.  Most of the interior walls of my house are painted a soft gray that at times looks green or blue.  So, I had plenty of this paint.  I mixed it with bright white until I came up with a shade that I liked and felt was close to the gray she used.  In the end,  I used about 3/4 of the can of white to 1/4 can of gray.  It is really a pretty color.  It is very suttle.  You can tell that it is gray, especially, when you put something white next to it.  But, just looking at it, it looks white.
So, I sanded everything really well.  I painted each piece over the course of 3 days.  It took 3 coats to cover.  I let each coat dry for a day and sanded in between coats to ensure the paint would adhere properly and not roll.

Actually, it was really pretty like this.  I almost left it.  But,  I really love the Shabby Chic style.  So, I pressed on with my original vision.  I distressed each piece.

The REVEAL!!!!
So, gorgeous!  I am glad I decided to go ahead and distress it.  Distressing just gives it so much character.  Look at all the details!

The pulls are so elegant.  The drawer fronts are curved which adds a really pretty touch.

I really love the carved pieces.  The distressing really shows the detail in the carvings.

I love, love, love it!  It turned out great!  Exactly what I envisioned.  It is available locally for purchase through my boutique as well as available online in my Etsy shop.

Have a great day!  Enjoy the rest of your week!
